Silicon Valleys in Europe – SILVA

Silicon Valleys in Europe – SILVA

The SILVA project aims to strengthen and expand the semiconductor ecosystem across key European regions, including Brabant, Saxony, and others with emerging capabilities. Focusing on knowledge sharing and best practices, SILVA will connect stakeholders, bridge innovation gaps, and catalyze growth through an integrated approach combining education, research, and networking. By fostering collaboration among academic, industry, and government partners, the project addresses challenges in the semiconductor supply chain, such as talent shortages and fragmented innovation pathways.

Through its three core pillars—1) Analysis, 2) Education, and 3) Networking—SILVA creates an environment where regions can leverage resources, enhance skill development, and coordinate efforts to improve resilience within the European semiconductor sector. The project will deliver an Action Plan and Exploitation Plan to support both immediate objectives and long-term goals, contributing to Europe’s strategic autonomy in semiconductor manufacturing.

The consortium unites organizations from 7 regions across the EU from Portugal to Romania:

  • Zlín (Tomas Bata University and Technology Innovation Center)
  • Brabant (Brainport Development and TU Eindhoven)
  • Saxony (Silicon Saxony)
  • Czech national organizations (Czech National Semiconductor Cluster and Czechinvest)
  • South Moravia (Innovation Hub of South Moravia and Intemac)
  • Žilina (INOVIA)
  • Norte (INESC TEC)
  • North-East Romania (TUIASI)

Key industry partners include ON Semiconductor CZ, NXP CZ and NL, Synopsys PT, Silicon Service RO, Infineon RO, and Continental
Automotive RO.

By nurturing a thriving ecosystem, SILVA will enhance regional competencies, support cross-border synergies, and create a foundation for future investments in semiconductor technology. This approach aligns with EU objectives to bolster technological sovereignty, reduce dependencies, and ensure competitive advantage for Europe’s semiconductor landscape.

The SILVA project has been evaluated as a strategic project for the Zlín Region.
