Study Requirements
Studies in a doctoral programme are based on: The Study and Examination Rules of TBU (Part Three: Provisions relating to studies in doctoral programmes). The rules are modified in:
Study and Examination Regulations of Study Programmes Realised at the Faculty of Applied Informatics and Dean’s Directive Supplementing the Rules Governing Studies in the Ph.D. Degree Studies Programmes at the Faculty of Applied Informatics.
Studies in a doctoral programme are carried out under the guidance of a supervisor in accordance with an individual curriculum.

Choice of course units for drawing up an individual study programme curriculum is followed by Dean’s Directive Supplementing the Rules Governing Studies in the Ph.D. Degree Studies Programmes at the Faculty of Applied Informatics (Article 7).

A doctoral student takes examinations in course units accordance with the individual curriculum.

Assessment and supervision of fulfilment of the individual curriculum
- A doctoral student usually reports annually on the progress in his/her studies, on the results of his/her research tasks and on the preparation of his/her doctoral thesis at his/her research unit.
- The assessment of fulfilment of the individual curriculum is carried out annually on the basis of a unified credit system through the submission of the completed table Assessment of a Doctoral Student at FAI (download here). Instructions for completing the table for the relevant academic year are available here (download here).
- The international students taught in the English language submit the completed table assessment of a doctoral student immediately after completing 12 months of studies and subsequently on 31 August of each academic year.
- Successfully passed examination of the course unit registered in the individual curriculum is rated by 10 credits.
- Credit ratings of other activities are specified in Dean’s Directive Supplementing the Rules Governing Studies in the Ph.D. Degree Studies Programmes at the Faculty of Applied Informatics (Annex 1).
State Doctoral Examination Requirements
The application for the State Doctoral Examination can be submitted in accordance with the rules and deadlines of the agenda. A detailed procedure is set out in Dean’s Directive Supplementing the Rules Governing Studies in the Ph.D. Degree Studies Programmes at the Faculty of Applied Informatics (Article 10).

Doctoral Thesis Defense Requirements
The application for the Doctoral Thesis Defense can be submitted in accordance with the rules and deadlines of the agenda.
