Lecture by Prof. Vladimír Kučera: Youla-Kučera Parameterization
5. March 2025On March 4, 2025, a remarkable lecture was held at the Faculty of Applied Informatics, Tomas Bata University in Zlín, delivered by Prof. Vladimír Kučera from the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics, and Cybernetics at CTU in Prague.
This distinguished expert in automation and control systems introduced the Youla-Kučera parameterization, a groundbreaking approach to designing stabilizing controllers for linear dynamic systems. This method not only ensures system stability but also optimizes other parameters such as robustness, disturbance rejection, and vibration control.
The lecture provided an overview of the historical development of this parameterization, its mathematical formulation, and its extensive applications—from optimal and robust control to system identification. Prof. Kučera also presented the latest research trends in this field, including stabilization under input constraints, output overshoot reduction, and fixed-order stabilizing controller design.
This event was a unique opportunity for students, academics, and industry professionals interested in modern control system methodologies. We sincerely thank Prof. Kučera for his inspiring lecture!
